TYPE OF WORKMANSHIP: Bas-relief sculpture on okumé wood.
Dimensions: 187 cm x 75 cm (internal bas-relief: 155 cm X 45 cm)
Generic symbols: Alice in Wonderland, Salento (Puglia)
Introduction to the sculptural work:
Fascinated by the imaginative and carefree theme of “alice in Wonderland”, I wanted to develop this wood sculpture, dealing with the aspects of this fairy tale through a vision related to their local reality.
The entire composition of the sculpture is therefore dominated by the presence of an olive tree, as a symbol of the territorial beauty of Salento (and Apulia).
Discourse on the Opera
A mystical space… between reality and fantasy… suspended a large olive tree with a twisted trunk, symbol of the beauty of nature and our territories, with a large bud that bends towards a certain direction…
At the bottom a rabbit… has in his hand a clock, marks twelve twenty-five…
In the middle a series of elliptical shapes form a vortex, curvilinear trails as air flows converge in it…
High up the mask of comedy amused, smiles… while below the mask of tragedy flees terrified…
Inside the vortex there is a lock, looking inside you will see… yourself… a mirror will reflect our image…
What if the key, to access the beauty of every place… and to reach that fantastic and wonderful life of everyone… was not something to be exclusively searched out… but it was about and started right from our inside?!…
