Introduction to the Sculptural Work:
Fascinated by the whimsical theme of Alice in Wonderland, I wanted to interpret this fairytale through a vision connected to my local reality. The entire composition is therefore dominated by the presence of a large olive tree, the ultimate symbol of the territorial beauty of Salento and Puglia.
Discourse on the Opera
A mystical space between reality and fantasy. At the center of the scene floats a large, gnarled olive tree, with a large bud that bends in a specific direction… Below, a rabbit holds a watch; it reads twelve twenty-five… In the center, a series of elliptical shapes form a vortex; curving trails like streams of air converge into it. In this surreal space, at the top, the amused mask of comedy smiles, while below, the mask of tragedy flees in terror. At the heart of the vortex there is a keyhole. Looking inside it, however, one does not glimpse a distant world but rather one’s own reflection… a mirror reflecting our image…
From this, the final reflection of the work is born: what if the key to accessing the wonder of the world and to aspiring to a more authentic existence was not to be found outside, but originated from within ourselves?
