Metaphysical David: Augmented Renaissance
A digital sculpture in Augmented Reality that reinterprets Michelangelo’s masterpiece, exploring contemporary man through fragility, technology, and rebirth.
What would Michelangelo’s David be like if it were sculpted today, in the digital age? From this question, a work is born that merges the Renaissance ideal with metaphysical aesthetics, creating a bridge between eternal marble and the intangible bit.
This is not just a sculpture to be observed, but a work to be experienced. Thanks to Augmented Reality, the Metaphysical David can be placed in any real-world space, inviting the viewer into a direct and personal interaction. Digital art steps out of the screen to inhabit our world, blending the physical and the virtual.
The symbols that compose it tell its story:
- The Inner Gaze: A futuristic visor covers the gaze. It does not deny sight, but transforms it into introspection. It is an invitation to look beyond appearances, to perceive reality through a new filter: that of the spirit and of consciousness.
- Fragility and Rebirth: The classical bust is fragmented, crossed by deep cracks. These fractures are not wounds, but signs of transformation from which new life sprouts—a symbol of resilience and the ability to be reborn from one’s own fractures, finding new strength in vulnerability.
- The Sphere: Suspended next to the heart is a perfect sphere. It represents the continuous human aspiration for perfection and the understanding of all things—two unreachable goals, but ones toward which we must strive in order to keep improving.
Metaphysical David is an icon for the man of the new millennium: a being who honors his classical past but accepts his own complexity, finding life in his fractures and a new way of seeing the world.
